How we prepare foundations for a garden sauna

From the first site survey to a level, raised base: see how we prepare a garden for a sauna installation.

Watch how we position and install the ground screws before the sauna base is built.

A garden sauna needs a stable, level foundation that keeps its timber base clear of damp ground. The right solution depends on the garden, so every installation begins with a site survey.

01

Survey the garden and agree the position

We look at access, drainage, available space and the route back to the fuse board. Together with the customer, we agree a practical position that suits both the garden and the sauna.

02

Check what is below the ground

Before installing the foundations, we scan the proposed ground screw positions with a cable detector to check for detectable buried electrical services. Any concern is resolved before work continues.

03

Drive and level the ground screws

Where the site is suitable, we use four one-metre ground screws. They are driven into the soil and carefully levelled, leaving approximately 100 mm above the ground for the sauna base.

04

Create a level, raised base

The sauna base beams sit on top of the four screws. This keeps the structure supported, level and raised above damp soil while allowing air to move beneath it.

05

Build, connect and protect the sauna

Once the base is ready, we build the sauna and fit the heater and LED lighting. A certified electrician supplies the dedicated circuit from the fuse board and provides the electrical certificate. We then treat the timber inside and out, leaving the sauna ready for its first heat.
